10:47 PM by Fashion Fan · 0 comments

NIKE, Inc. reported financial results for its fiscal 2011 first quarter ended August 31, 2010. Earnings per share for the quarter were up 10 percent on 8 percent higher net revenue as a result of gross margin expansion driven by the strength of the NIKE, Inc. Fashion brands in the B2B marketplace and continued clean inventory positions.
“We had a great first quarter. It demonstrates the power of our growth strategy, which is to create innovative products, amazing brand experiences, and premium retail destinations wherever consumers connect with NIKE,” said Mark Parker, President and CEO, NIKE, Inc.
“Going forward we’ll continue to maximize the flexibility, balance and alignment that we have built into our portfolio of brands and categories. Those strengths will help us navigate the continued uncertainty in the macro-economic picture. More importantly they help us leverage the global appetite for sports and innovation, which has never been stronger. That’s how we continue to grow our businesses, strengthen our balance sheet and increase our returns to shareholders over the long term.”
Futures Orders
As of the end of the quarter worldwide futures orders for NIKE Brand athletic footwear and apparel, scheduled for delivery from September 2010 through January 2011, totaled $7.1 billion, 10 percent higher than orders reported for the same period last year. Excluding currency changes, reported orders would have increased 13 percent.

Descente & coldback sponsored Triathlete wins in the Louisville

10:36 PM by Fashion Fan · 0 comments

Descente and coldblack sponsored athlete, Paul Ambrose took first place this past Sunday at the Louisville, Kentucky Iron Man, a 140.6 mile race. Ambrose finished with a final time of 8:29:59, followed by Martin Jensen of Denmark with a final time of 8:41.54.

After exiting the water about three minutes behind swim leader John Flanagan, Ambrose gradually took control of the race thanks to the day’s fastest bike split that put him over 12 minutes ahead of Jensen. Ambrose’s win was accredited to this commanding lead in the 112 mile bike ride, which he finished with a 4:31:36 split. Ambrose could have had a much faster time, but he took some time to relish the moment with high-fives with fans in the winning distance. It was his first Ironman victory and his 5th race of the season.

“I’m very happy to take my first Ironman Victory in Louisville, Kentucky. I've had many frustrating races where I've been out in front all day and then passed at the end. This was really enjoyable being able to stay out in front, and not been "caught" for a change. Also, it has been a goal of mine for some time to win an Ironman title, so I'm very glad to be able to achieve it at a young age,” said 26 year-old Ambrose.

Teijin Fibers Limited, the core company of the Teijin Group’s polyester fibers business, announced that it will participate in Interfiliere Paris 2010, the world's leading international trade fairs for lingerie and beachwear fabrics, which will be held at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris, France, from September 4 to 6.

Teijin Fibers will present its environmentally friendly high performance polyester materials under the concept of “The Fusion of Ecology & Function.” The company’s fourth appearance in the exhibition will focus mainly on ELKTM (ELASTY), a urethane-alternative, high-performance polyester cushioning material, which a growing number of companies are using to make bra cups. The company also aims to expand business in the international innerwear market in parallel with its appearance in Interfiliere Paris 2010.

The Teijin Fibers booth will feature the following key products:

• ELKTM (ELASTY), high-performance polyester cushioning material that can be used in place of urethane. It is lightweight, durable, highly rebounding, highly breathable and does not get yellow easily, making it an ideal material for cushioning materials in bra cups. It is also environmentally friendly as it does not generate cyanogen gas when incinerated. It has already been used by international innerwear brands.

Mill Improvement Program by Bureau Veritas

10:09 PM by Fashion Fan · 0 comments

The textile and apparel market is an increasingly competitive industry where reducing production costs, improving product quality, reducing time to market and maximizing productivity are the keys to survival. Having good process and production controls and recognizing in-house test facilities at the mill level can go a long to addressing many of these concerns.

With tens of thousands of mills worldwide, Bureau Veritas’ newly launched Mill Improvement Program helps manage and mitigate risks for apparel buyers, sellers, Apparel manufacturers and mills at the earliest stage; helping to prevent poor quality, unsafe or non-compliant fabrics being shipped.

Critically, their solution also enables Textile mills with testing facilities to perform their own in-house performance testing instead of outsourcing to a third party. The working conditions element also helps protect against the constant media speculation associated with social compliance.

Brian Whitters, Global Supply Chain Risk Management Product Line Leader at Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services states, “In today’s cost, quality and safety conscious market, our clients are seeing increasing demand to partner their supply chain and demonstrate they are sourcing responsibly.
