Scarlett Johansson, one of the most important actresses on the international scene, is to be the star of MANGO's advertising campaign for the fourth consecutive season.

La Ricarda House, a spectacular modernist house in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona) was the setting chosen by MANGO for the photo session for the new Spring 2011 season, in which the American actress poses once again for photographer Mario Sorrenti. Jane How was styling director for the shoot, while hair and makeup were by Aaron de Mey and Oribe respectively.

The renowned photographer, who has worked with MANGO since Scarlett first became the face of the brand, has yet again captured the more sophisticated, fresher side of the actress perfectly. Scarlett Johansson said that she was in her element working for the brand. “Yes, it has been great working with MANGO. I loved working with the whole team – I think between Mario, the makeup and hairdressing teams and the stylist, we have created something special."

The new MANGO collection, called Modernist Resort, has gone for a clean, modernist look with a focus on simple lines and minimalist silhouettes that use bright colours and graphic contrasts in the stripes to add energy. The longer skirt move towards pencil styles and slightly fuller forms, adding movement and sensuality.

CMYUK Digital launches Berger micro-site for digital textile selection

2:32 AM by Fashion Fan · 0 comments

Following its appointment as the sole UK distributor for Berger wide-format textiles for the soft sign and display markets, CMYUK Digital has launched an innovative and foolproof method for helping users choose compatible materials. A complementary micro-site to the company’s main web presence, makes it a simple four-step process to select printer model, ink formulation, application type and specific requirements, such as levels of fire retardance.

The idea of producing a dedicated site for print companies wanting to select textile products came about because of the complexities faced by many display producers who were confused about which fabrics could be used with their existing engines. Berger’s vast and comprehensive catalogue of materials covers all ink types, including dye sublimation, solvent-based, UV-curable, latex and aqueous-based but never before has there been such a simple method of matching media to machine.
CMYUK Digital’s appointment by Berger immediately saw a rapid uptake in orders for the German manufacturer’s high quality range of textiles, made available from a leading distributor for the first time in the UK. However, many users of new and older machines technologies quickly proved that they needed a quick and easy way to determine which fabric could be used with their existing technologies for different applications.

Commenting on the results, Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Limited said:
“Reliance had another record quarter as both refining and petrochemical margins continued to improve and for certain products recorded historic levels. Robust demand growth in home markets and highly competitive assets enabled Reliance to have industry leading operating rates and margins.”
Turnover achieved for the nine months ended 31st December 2010 was Rs. 183,368 crore (US$ 41.0 billion), an increase of 30.9% over the corresponding period of the previous year. Exports were higher by 29.2% at Rs. 100,995 crore (US$ 22.6 billion) as against Rs. 78,182 crore (US$ 16.8 billion) in the corresponding period of the previous year.
Consumption of raw materials increased by 28.7% to Rs. 134,975 crore (US$ 30.2 billion) mainly on account of higher crude oil prices as well as higher volume of crude oil processed in the SEZ refinery. Purchases for traded goods decreased from Rs. 2,389 crore to Rs. 1,223 crore.
Petrochemicals Business
This was the best quarter ever for petrochemicals segment with respect to production, revenue and EBIT. Petrochemicals segment EBIT was at Rs. 2,429 crore, higher by about 9% over previous quarterly high of Rs. 2,222 crore in 4Q FY 0910. vivienne westwood exhibition 2011 at fit in NYC

4:55 AM by Fashion Fan · 0 comments

The Museum at FIT and the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Master of Arts program in Fashion and Textile Studies: History, Theory, Museum Practice present Vivienne Westwood, 1980-89 — the first exhibition to focus on Westwood’s transformation from “street” provocateur to acclaimed fashion designer. Featuring more than 40 objects, including clothing, photographs, magazines, and videos, the exhibition will explore Westwood’s design aesthetic, press coverage, and clientele.

Candidates for the Master of Arts degree in Fashion and Textile Studies at FIT present an annual exhibition at The Museum at FIT as part of their curriculum, taking on the roles of conservators, curators, educators, exhibition designers, publicists, registrars, and researchers. Drawing from the collection of The Museum at FIT, Vivienne Westwood, 1980-89 will feature iconic Westwood ensembles.

Westwood and her then-partner, Malcolm McLaren, first became known for their provocative punk clothing in the mid-1970s. While they presented runway collections for the first time in the early 1980s, their post-punk following was limited mostly to “outsider” fashion magazines and members of London’s street culture.

Z Zegna A/W collection fuses romantic yet masculine style

4:56 AM by Fashion Fan · 0 comments

Masculinity makes an inventive and stylistic comeback for the Z Zegna Autumn/Winter 2011 collection. In our brand laboratory, the reassuring legacy of classical man is first acknowledged and then successfully overturned by a young romanticism, mixed with technological tricks that are inspired by contemporary visual arts.
The core color palette consists of charcoal grey, military green and camel which are presented in different shades, ranging from light to very dark, with occasional and unexpected accents of petrol. Plenty of carded wool has been used, from the thickly woven mélange yarn for suit and overcoats to the softer, hand-knit sweater. All share the same, unique trait: they look very heavy, but feel ultra light. Camel, mohair, angora, alpaca and cashmere are the fibre of choice, often mixed to create extremely soft fabrics.
The ever-present virtuoso craftsmanship of the brand skillfully mixes deconstructed and boxy outerwear. Trouser are wide at the hip and slim at the ankle, creating a new male silhouette, striking yet slender. Jackets are short, either three-buttoned or double-breasted, while three-piece suits are composed of two layered jacket and trousers. Squared and protective cuts characterize the ample choice of overcoats and Leather outerwear, alternating high-seamed leather jackets and more hybrid garment, like peacoats made with a remarkable jersey in a heavy 800 grams.

Topshop reveals four new looks for Spring Summer

4:30 AM by Fashion Fan · 0 comments

Topshop has launched four new looks for Spring Summer 2011 with its Snake Valley, Swedish Summer, New Age Constellation and Graduation collections.
Snake Valley is inspired by the 70s 'Gypsy Rocker' character embodied by Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz. Tough elements like snake prints, python leather, and battered biker boots are mixed with Navaho flourishes, including fringing, feathers and tapestry detailing.
Sleeves are billowing and fluted, balancing the shape of a high-waist skinny leather trouser or hotpant. A blanket poncho features Aztec intarsia knits, whilst an ecru crochet kimono is decorated with heavy beading and biker jacket with whip-stitching, fringing or tie-dyed leather. Prints include paisleys, animal tie dye and feather prints, whilst accessories have a dress-up feel.
Swedish Summer draws its inspiration from 1970s glamour, where vintage-inspired pieces have a dramatic, sweeping silhouette. There is an eclectic folk-inspired feel that sees soft Art Nouveau and William Morris floral prints mixed with glitter, foil and crafty fabrics like patchwork.
Homespun cotton crochets and lace appear on cream and ecru tunic dress, whilst soft, transparent crepe de chine and georgette are used in long printed tiered folk dresses and maxi skirts. Fluoro ditsy prints flourish over wide-leg palazzo trousers and mid-calf length skirts, whilst a printed tunic top with full sleeves comes with matching trousers. 70s blue denim appears in softer, washed colours and is seen on high-waist shorts, flared jeans and A-line skirts. Fashion Accessories include floppy hat, clumpy clog Leather shoes, floral hair garlands and macrame bags in natural colours.

Björn Borg is forming a new subsidiary in January 2011 to produce fashionable athletic and functional wear together with its Dutch distributor. The creation of a separate operation based in the Netherlands is another element in Björn Borg’s strategy to focus on its core business, underwear, based in Stockholm.

The new company, Björn Borg Sport, is founded on Björn Borg’s clothing concept in the Netherlands, with established operations and an extensive experience from successfully managing the licensed womenswear company for about ten years in Holland. The collections, both men’s and women’s, will primarily include sports fashion and functional sports wear. The products will be sold to distributors in Björn Borg’s current markets, with an initial focus on larger markets.

“To further concentrate on being a world leader in underwear, we have decided to streamline our Stockholm operations and manage Bjo¨rn Borg’s apparel operations in a separate company in the Netherlands. We do this with our Dutch distributor, which has proven successful in the development of a growing apparel Sourcing business. This new initiative will create better opportunities for our clothing business to grow and allow us to more clearly emphasize our main product, underwear, in the rest of organization,” says President Arthur Engel.
